Who invented the first PC Virus?

First ever PC computer virus was named as Brain. In 1986,  two Pakistani bothers, Amjad Farooq Alvi and Basit Farooq Alvi, invented this very first PC Virus. Amjad farooq Alvi and Basit farooq Alvi  are currently running an ISP under the name of Brain Telecommunication Limited, in Lahore, Pakistan.

Mikko Hypponen travelled to Pakistan to find the writers of the first PC virus. The first virus to infect PC computers was discovered in 1986. Intriguingly, the virus contained the contact details of its authors in Pakistan. 25 years later, in February 2011, Mikko Hypponen, Chief Research Officer at F-Secure, travelled to the city of Lahore in Pakistan to find the authors. The authors were identified as brothers Amjad Farooq Alvi and Basit Farooq Alvi. Today they run a successful Internet Service Provider business called Brain Telecommunication Ltd with a third brother Shahid Farooq Alvi.

F-Secure has produced a 10-minute video reportage of the trip, entitled Brain – Searching for the first PC Virus. This is the first time the brothers have given a video interview about the virus, which spread around the world via floppy disks. In the video Amjad and Basit reveal that Brain was not meant to be a destructive virus, which is why they even included their phone numbers in the virus code.

Their motive for writing the virus was to check the multi-tasking functionality in the new DOS operating system and to see if there were any security vulnerabilities in DOS compared to other operating systems such as Unix. Soon they started getting phone calls from as far as the United States and Australia.

Mikko Hypponen says, “It was incredible. I went to Pakistan to the address listed inside the virus code, knocked on the door – and the brothers who wrote Brain 25 years ago opened the door! When Amjad and Basit wrote the virus in 1986, the world was a very different place. They had no malicious intent when creating what turned out to be the first PC virus. I think we have recorded an important part of computer history in this video."

Explain Different Types of Data Processing and Advantages Disadvantages

Today we will discuss different types or levels of data processing in detail. Let us define Data processing first. DATA PROCESSING Data processing is the sequence of operations performed on data to convert it into useful information . These operations may be arithmetic, statistical or logical operations. We can arrange or classify data. We can send and receive data from one point to another. Explain different types of data processing TYPES OF DATA PROCESSING (OR) LEVELS OF DATA PROCESSING) There are three types of data processing . 1) Manual data processing 2) Mechanical data processing 3) Electronic data processing We may also use the term Levels of data processing. First level of data processing was manual data processing when there were no calculating devices (before the invention of calculators). Therefore all processing jobs were performed manually by hand with the help of pen , paper and mind. In second level of data processing, machines like calculat...

Explain Different Types Of Computer Networks - LAN, MAN, WAN

Explain different types of computer networks:(LAN,WAN,MAN) Today, we will discuss the main types of computer networks on the basis of the maximum distance covered where they can be accessed and operate. The main types of computer networks are: LAN, WAN, MAN Explain different types of computer networks 1.    LAN - Local-Area Network 2.    WAN - Wide-Area Network 3.    MAN - Metropolitan-Area Network 1)LAN (Local Area Network) What is LAN or Local Area Network LAN stands for Local Area Network . It covers a small area. Most LANs are used to connect computers in a single building or group of near buildings. A network contained within a relatively small area, such as a classroom, school, or single building, is commonly referred to as a local area network. Hundreds or thousands of computers may be connected through LAN . LANs are used in office buildings, college or university campus etc. Local Area Networks can t...
